Establishing the Pecking Order in St Andrews Harbour

The bird life in St Andrews Harbour certainly adds to the beauty of the setting. But there is also competition between them for access to resources. In the picture series below we see the heron who frequents the harbour being forced to retreat on to the bank by one of the swans. The swan doesn’t even slow down. It simply expects the heron to move and allow it to continue feeding as it chooses. It’s clear where the two lie in the hierarchy.
