Heading down to the East Sands on Sunday I came across a triathlon in full swing! One of the most gruelling sporting challenges, triathlon involves long distance stages of swimming, cycling, and running, with no rest breaks between the disciplines.
This particular event, The St Andrews Triathlon, was organised by Pedal Powered Events and featured 4 different races including one at the full Olympic distance of 1500m swim, 40km cycle, and 10km run.
The weather seemed to be pretty good for it although the sea was apparently a little choppy. However, the nice weather also meant that there were more people on the beach and the streets and more traffic in the area for the triathletes to negotiate.
The triathletes hit the sea with St Andrews Pier in the background.
Triathletes emerge as some of the crowd test the water.
The triathletes head in and out of transition from swimming to cycling.
Some triathletes encounter beach-bound traffic problems on their way out of the East Sands area.
The triathletes ditch their bikes and start running.
