Pastygate, Jerry-cans, and a Jittery Government
30 March, 2012
Recently the UK’s Tory-led Coalition Government appears to have stepped up the madness by several notches. We had a budget in which they taxed grannies whilst giving the rich a hand-out in the shape of a cut in the top rate of tax from 50% to 45%. We’ve also seen the wilful destruction of the NHS with the Health and Social Care bill. But this week has seen the insanity taken in ... Read more
Franciscan Skeletons in St Andrews

St Andrews is in a state of excitement this week. Well, those of us in the town who enjoy things like medieval skeletons, anyway. Whilst doing roadworks in Greyfriars Gardens, just off Market Street workmen discovered the bones of several people, thought to be Franciscan monks. Below we see the site where the bodies were found. Putting Horsegate In Context
3 March, 2012
The oddest political story of the week was the news that Rebekah Brooks loaned a retired Met Police horse, named Raisa, between 2008 and 2010. Even letting her friend and neighbour, David Cameron, have a go on it. It’s one of those stories that leaves many wondering what to do with it beyond equine wordplay. It’s obscure and ... Read more
Keep Calm and Carry On St Andrews
25 February, 2012
Way back in May last year I went along to the filming of the Antiques Roadshow at St Andrews University. A full nine months later and the show is finally being screened on BBC1 this Sunday at 8pm. If you tune in you might see me lurking in the background of some valuations, grimacing at Eric Knowles’ jokes, and occasionally ... Read more
